10th Lesson

Yesterday marked the 10th lesson of our module, and the topics we are discussing are just getting more and more complicated and objective.

In this lesson, Professor Singh touched on the topic of futurology and forecasting, and how it should be used to assess which types of existing technology is more worth investing in. The use of foresight is especially intriguing, especially in the business world. As shown in the slides, foresight output can be used to predict future scenarios and also to prepare solutions to such scenarios. By being able to prepare for any future scenarios, the future scenario would not adversely affect the operations of the corporation to such a large extent.

From this lesson, we should learn to fully exploit all available technologies to prepare for any possible scenarios. Quoting from Voltaire, “It is said that the present is pregnant with the future”. This means that whatever happens in the future is dependent on what happens currently. As such, would it not be more sensible and cautionary to prepare for whatever happens? In this case, we should use all our available technology to provide the best forecast possible.

For this lesson, I would rate it a 7/10. The concept of futurology and also the main topic of this lesson is rather difficult to follow and understand. Class discussions should be more frequent for topics such as these.
